About Kent County Criminal History

Kent County criminal records are divided among the sheriff, four district courts, the 17th Circuit Court, Michigan State Police, the state corrections system, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. This private reference resource organizes the official portals, office contacts, and request routes that help a reader reach the proper custodian from Grand Rapids or elsewhere in the county.

Why We Built This Site

Public access in Michigan depends on the record and its custodian. Kent County Sheriff Records handles its own police and local-check material, the correctional facility maintains current booking information, and the court clerks keep charges and dispositions. The Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center operates ICHAT for public statewide history, while MDOC and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry serve narrower purposes. Bringing the verified access points, costs, and request steps together makes that split system easier to navigate.

What You Will Find Here

  • Agency contacts: verified routes to Kent County Sheriff Records, court clerks, and Michigan record systems
  • Official-check instructions: the difference between ICHAT name searches and fingerprint-based personal review
  • Record access: how criminal court case records are found and read in Kent County
  • Clean Slate information: where Michigan set-aside forms, fingerprints, court files, and MSP processing fit

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately operated reference site, not part of a Michigan court, law-enforcement office, or state agency. Its role has firm limits:

  • It cannot issue certified court documents, police reports, or criminal-history records
  • It cannot submit a set-aside application, FOIA request, or court filing for a visitor
  • It cannot run an official background check or retrieve a person's private record
  • It cannot provide legal advice about a charge, warrant, conviction, or pending case
  • It cannot promise that an agency's hours, fees, or contacts will never change

Only the sheriff, originating police agency, court clerk, or Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center can provide its official record.

Search Partners

Search boxes on some pages are operated by outside providers. Those providers control their results, terms, and prices. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may generate a referral fee that supports this free resource. Kent County Criminal History does not control the provider's matching process, coverage, retention rules, or charges.
