Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Kent County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is transmitted to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Kent County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not voluntarily disclosed outside the organization, although a valid legal duty may require disclosure.

Data We Gather Automatically

Routine server and analytics logs may collect technical details when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates, times, and duration
  • Device type and operating system
  • The referring site, when one is reported
  • Browser name and version
  • The pages opened during the visit
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files that can help measure traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics providers may aggregate those signals. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a query to the partner that operates the chosen search tool
  • Diagnose performance, availability, and security problems
  • Measure which pages are useful and where content needs work
  • Deliver advertising that may reflect visitor interests
  • Operate the site and improve page speed

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Kent County Criminal History does not maintain, sell, or compile a database of personal criminal records. It publishes access information for the Sheriff Records Division, local courts, Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies supply the search boxes. Their privacy terms, rather than this policy, govern the information entered into those tools. Each provider determines its own retention, disclosure, and processing practices, so review those terms before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to government agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review it before supplying personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate those tracking systems.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be received by:

  • Analytics vendors that measure traffic and site performance
  • Search providers processing a query submitted to their tool
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under valid legal process
  • Advertising networks serving content on these pages

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, so complete protection against every unauthorized event cannot be promised.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information known to have been submitted by a minor will be removed when properly identified.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy or consumer-protection law may provide rights over personal data. Michigan FOIA, including MCL 15.231, governs access to qualifying records of public bodies and does not turn this private site into a government custodian. Where the law applies, a user may:

  • Object to or opt out of certain processing
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Ask for deletion where a legal exception does not apply
  • Seek a copy of personal information kept about the requester

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revision becomes available here with its new effective date, so users should review the current version when returning.
